Domain Name Registration
LiveZone can assist you with each of the three aspects necessary to register
your own domain name:
- you must obtain permission from InterNIC to register your specific
domain name.
- the domain definition must be placed on a DNS server.
- specific IP addresses must be allocated to each service (eg., Web,
email) being supported.
Registering your domain name can be done in either of two ways:
- Register the domain name yourself. If you know how
this is done, or are willing to learn, you'll save yourself about $100.
Your only out-of-pocket expense will be the $70 domain name registration
fee you will pay Network Solutions (InterNIC); this covers your first two years' registration
of a single name.
- Registration assistance. We'll help you find a good
name, then register it for you. We charge $50 for our assistance, plus
the $70 InterNIC fee. We can give you pointers on finding a "good"
name for your organization -- one that's not already taken by someone else
-- one that your clients will remember. Then we'll file the InterNIC registration;
we've found that submitting registration requests error-free the first
time leads to much faster InterNIC turn-around times.
Once your domain name is registered, you must arrange for a DNS
server to support your domain name. LiveZone maintains a primary DNS server
where you can install your domain name. We'll arrange to provide both the
primary and secondary DNS servers that the InterNIC requires for all domain
names.
- The cost of setup and maintenance of your domain's DNS server are included
in the price of all LiveZone Web Site
and FTP packages.
- If you want to register a domain name now, but don't have an immediate
need for Web or FTP services, we offer an affordable stand-alone
DNS service to support your domain name.
If you already control your domain name, we can assist you in
transferring the primary and secondary DNS service to LiveZone. There's
no charge for this service beyond our usual Web, FTP, or DNS setup and maintenance
charges.
Normal DNS setup on the LiveZone server normally includes the base domain,
the "www" host name, and MX services using the "mail"
host name. If you desire other services, host names, or sub-domains to be
defined, you must specify the correct definitions by email to LZSupport @ LiveZone.com
in advance of your DNS setup.
Registration Assistance
We can help you locate a domain name that helps represent your organization
effectively. But first, we need to know a few things about your organization.
- What is the nature of your organization's purpose or business?
- Where are you located, and where do you do expect to be doing business
with your Internet presence?
- Where are your Internet clients located?
- What is the official name of your organization, and what nick-names
and abbreviated names do you and your clients use?
- Are there any language (non-English) considerations for your organization
or your clients that we should be aware of?
- What are your competitors; do they have an Internet presence?
- What level of familiarity do you have with the Internet and World Wide
Web?
.Answers to these questions are the starting-point in our search for
your domain name. We can give you feed-back on effective naming strategies,
and ideas on how to find names that might be appropriate for your organization's
anticipated Internet and Web presence.

your request.
- Within one day of your InterNIC application, you should receive a notice
that your email has been received. There's a number that it includes so
you can go to the InterNIC site and check on the status of your request.
It will be something like this: Re: [NIC-960227.2284] NEW DOMAIN. The 1st
6 digits are the year/month/day and the last bunch of digits are the request
number in line (i.e 2284 is request number 2284 that day). If all goes
well, in the next couple days InterNIC will send email indicating your
domain name has been approved. If you don't hear from them in more than
5 working days, contact us at LZSupport @ LiveZone.com.
